Hanna and I talked yesterday about what Good Friday meant; each year she picks up a little more understanding. We've read the Easter story over many times at bedtime and it was interesting that one of the first points she told me was how sad Jesus' mommy would've been because she watched Him being nailed to the cross. Then she talked about how His friends took Him down and wrapped His body. Children pick up on details we sometimes forget to think about. So today I'm reminded how confusing and anguished His mother and followers must have felt. It must've seemed like an end to all the hope they had placed in their future King on that dark, dismal day. Little did they know that farther along, only a few days later, a miracle like none other would take place. That Jesus would come out of the darkness of death and reveal His truth that we may live in the sunshine of His righteousness.
There are so many things we don't understand in today's world, so many questions we have but there is rest in knowing that as long as we live in the Son-shine, we'll understand it all someday... I heard this remake of the original hymn on a blog this week...beautiful words.
Farther along we’ll know more about it,
Farther along we’ll understand why;
Cheer up, my brother, live in the sunshine,
We’ll understand it all by and by.
Farther along we’ll understand why;
Cheer up, my brother, live in the sunshine,
We’ll understand it all by and by.
Hanna and Jake hit the replay button on this Easter song for children many times today.
But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed. Isaiah 53:5
